Biometric Services Appointments May Be Rescheduled By Phone

The Biden administration announced last week that biometric services appointments may be resecheduled by calling the USCIS. This is a helpful change in policy which will increase efficiency and streamline the process required for the review of many petitions.

When someone files an application or petition with the USCIS, a biometric services appointment is scheduled at a local Application Support Center to obtain fingerprints, photographs and signatures. Form I-797C, Notice of Action, informs an applicant of the scheduled appointment. Biometrics are completed in order for the government to confirm applicants’ identity and perform background investigations.

This policy change allows interested parties to call the USCIS Contact Center (800-375-5283) to reschedule their biometric services appointments. Good cause must be established for rescheduling. In addition, efforts to reschedule must be made prior to the date of the appointment.
